Gerunds & Infinitives as direct objects


Use gerunds after these verbs
Use Infinitives after these verbs

Avoid / discuss / dislike / don’t mind / enjoy /
feel like / practice quit / suggest


Agree  / be sure / choose / decide / expect / hope / learn /
Need / plan / seem / plan / seem / want / wish / would like


Verbs followed by both gerunds and infinitives

Begin / can’t stand / continue / hate / like  / love / prefer / start


Example as gerund:


                                          I enjoy cooking on weekends.
                                              verb         gerund



Example as infinitive:

                                        We plan to go on vacation.
                                       verb



Example as both:
                           
                           She likes dancing.
                                   verb       
                           She likes to dance.
                                   verb

Gerunds as object of preposition
